The Reference Archivist participates in the regular supervision of the reading room and reference desk, assists researchers in accessing both traditional print and electronic resources available locally and beyond Harvard, and consults with library clientele on research problems and recommends appropriate tools and methodologies with finding materials appropriate to their research. The Reference Archivist also assists in developing public programming and outreach activities, including the research and installation of exhibits, tours, orientation sessions and classroom programs; keeps statistics and information for user studies; and maintains and develops websites and other promotional and publicity-related materials.

Required Education:

Minimum 2 years experience within an archival repository or library special collections unit, preferably in an academic setting, or equivalent education and experience. Strong public services background with experience providing reference and research services and knowledge of print and electronic reference sources. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work successfully in a collaborative, team-based environment.
